Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are injectable treatments used to restore volume, enhance facial contours, and support overall facial balance. Most fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body that attracts and retains moisture in the skin.
While results are visible immediately, proper preparation and aftercare play an important role in minimizing side effects and supporting optimal, long-lasting results.
Pre-Treatment Care
Skin Preparation
- Arrive with a clean face (no makeup, lotions, or skincare)
Product & Lifestyle Considerations
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior
- Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E) for 3-7 days if medically appropriate
- Stay well hydrated leading up to your appointment
Medical Considerations
- Avoid treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Inform your provider of any history of cold sores, autoimmune conditions, or allergies
- Avoid treatment if you have active infection, irritation, or inflammation in the area
- Avoid treatment within 2 weeks of dental work, vaccines, or illness

Ongoing Care (Up to 2 Weeks)
- Avoid intense exercise and heat exposure for at least 24–48 hours
- Avoid facials, lasers, or dental procedures for 2 weeks
- Do not manipulate or massage the area unless instructed
- Swelling and bruising will gradually resolve

Supporting Your Results
Dermal filler outcomes are influenced not only by placement, but by how your body responds in the days following treatment. To support optimal results:
Hydration + Tissue Support
- Stay well hydrated – hyaluronic acid binds water within the skin
- Maintain consistent fluid intake in the days following treatment
Reduce Swelling + Inflammation
For 24–72 hours post-treatment, try to minimize:
- Alcohol
- Excess sodium
- Highly processed foods
This helps reduce unnecessary fluid retention and inflammation.
Nutritional Support
Focus on simple, supportive nutrition:
- Whole foods rich in vitamins and minerals
- Antioxidant-rich foods (berries, greens)
- Healthy fats to support skin quality
Lifestyle Considerations
- Avoid excessive heat or pressure on the area
- Prioritize rest and recovery
- Allow time for the filler to settle naturally before assessing results
Treatment Notes
- Results are immediate, but final outcomes are best assessed after swelling subsides
- Mild asymmetry during healing is normal and typically resolves
- Longevity varies depending on area treated, metabolism, and lifestyle factors
- Follow-up appointments may be recommended to refine results
