Microneedling (SkinPen & RF Microneedling)
Microneedling treatments work by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production. RF microneedling enhances this process by delivering heat into deeper layers of the skin, further supporting skin tightening and remodeling.
This process activates your body’s natural healing response, which continues to rebuild and strengthen the skin over the following weeks.
Proper preparation and aftercare play a key role in how effectively your skin repairs and regenerates.
Pre-Treatment Care
Skin Preparation
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least 7-10 days prior
- Keep skin well hydrated and supported in the days leading up to treatment
Product Restrictions
- Avoid retinoids, AHA/BHA, vitamin C, and exfoliating products for 3-5 days prior
- Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, or aggressive exfoliation for at least 2 weeks prior
Medical Considerations
- Avoid treatment if you have had Accutane within the last 6 months
- Active acne, infection, or irritation in the area may need to be treated prior
- If prone to cold sores, antiviral support may be recommended
- Inform your provider of any medical conditions, medications, or recent treatments
Post-Treatment Care
What to Expect
- Redness, warmth, and mild swelling (similar to a sunburn) for 24-72 hours
- Skin may feel tight, dry, or slightly rough for several days
- Light flaking or temporary breakouts may occur as the skin renews
(Downtime may be slightly longer with RF microneedling depending on depth and intensity.)
First 24–48 Hours
- Avoid heat (hot showers, saunas, workouts)
- Avoid touching or applying non-approved products
- Do not wear makeup for at least 24-48 hours
- Use only gentle, hydrating skincare as recommended
Ongoing Care (3–7 Days)
- Avoid retinoids, acids, vitamin C, and active products
- Avoid sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ daily
- Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate flaking skin
- Resume active skincare gradually once the skin has calmed
General Care
- Keep skin hydrated and supported with gentle products
- Use hyaluronic acid and barrier-supporting moisturizers as recommended
- Avoid intense exercise or sweating for at least 24-48 hours
Supporting Your Results
Microneedling is a regenerative treatment, and your results depend on how effectively your body heals and produces new collagen.
Hydration + Repair
- Increase water intake before and after treatment
- Ensure adequate protein intake (collagen is built from amino acids)
Nutritional Support
Focus on nutrients that support skin repair and collagen production:
- Protein (lean meats, eggs, legumes)
- Vitamin C (berries, citrus, leafy greens)
- Zinc + minerals (seeds, nuts, whole foods)
- Healthy fats (omega-3s, olive oil, avocado)
Reduce Inflammation
For 24–72 hours post-treatment, try to minimize:
- Alcohol
- Excess sugar
- Highly processed foods
Support Circulation + Healing
- Light movement (walking) supports blood flow and recovery
- Prioritize sleep and stress management – this is where real repair happens
Treatment Notes
- Results are not immediate – collagen remodeling occurs over several weeks
- A series of treatments is recommended for optimal results
- Temporary dryness, breakouts, or texture changes can occur during the healing process
- RF microneedling treatments may involve slightly more downtime and intensity depending on treatment depth
