What exactly is a chemical peel?
Despite the name, chemical peels are often made from naturally derived ingredients like fruit acids, sugar cane, enzymes, or milk. These professional exfoliating treatments gently encourage cell turnover by targeting the skin’s outermost layers – revealing smoother texture, improved tone, and a radiant complexion.
Will my skin actually peel?
Not always. “Peel” simply refers to the skin’s exfoliation process. Many of our medical-grade peels are designed to be no-downtime, meaning you may not visibly peel at all. However, some deeper or layered peels (like our Glow Peel) can cause light to moderate peeling or flaking. We’ll always let you know what to expect in advance so you can feel informed and relaxed.
Are chemical peels safe for sensitive skin?
Yes – when done properly and tailored to your skin requirements. We customize every peel based on your skin’s current condition and tolerance. Many clients with sensitive skin benefit from gentler enzyme or lactic acid-based peels, which offer glow-enhancing results without irritation.
Can I wear makeup after my peel?
For lighter peels, makeup can usually be applied the following day. If you’ve had a deeper resurfacing peel (like the Perfect Derma Peel), we recommend giving your skin a few days of breathing room. Your Natology skin specialist will provide you with tailored post-care instructions as well, so you can rest easy knowing we’re with you every step of the way.
Is there downtime after a peel?
We’ve intentionally designed most of our peels are designed to have little to no downtime. If visible peeling does occur, it typically lasts a few days and is easily managed with soothing aftercare and gentle hydration. We’ll always discuss what to expect post-treatment so you feel not only beautiful, but confident, informed and prepared.
How should I prepare before my appointment?
We ask our clients to avoid exfoliating products, waxing, or intense sun exposure for at least 5–7 days prior to your peel. If you’re using active skincare (like retinol or acids), we may advise you to pause them temporarily. Detailed pre-care guidelines will also be provided when you schedule your appointment.
What skin concerns can a chemical peel help with?
Chemical peels can be customized to address a variety of skin goals, including:
• Acne and post-acne scarring
• Fine lines and wrinkles
• Melasma and pigmentation
• Sun damage
• Uneven skin tone
• Dull or rough texture
• Mild skin laxity
How many treatments will I need?
Most clients see the best results with a series of treatments. Think of peels as a way to train your skin over time – gradual, consistent exfoliation supports long-term rejuvenation without shocking the skin. Your Natology skin care specialist will recommend a plan that suits your unique skin goals and lifestyle.
How do I know which peel is right for me?
No need to stress about selecting the perfect one – we’ve got you covered. Every appointment begins with a thorough consultation and skin analysis to determine the most effective peel for your skin at that moment. We adapt each treatment to your evolving skin needs to ensure you’re receiving the best quality care and attention.
What areas can be treated with chemical peels?
While the face is most common among our clients, peels can also be applied to the neck, chest, back, shoulders, and hands – anywhere skin could use some tender love and care.
Do chemical peels hurt?
Everyone’s experience is different, but you may feel a light tingling or warming sensation during the treatment – this is completely normal and only lasts a few minutes. We always prioritize your comfort and can tailor the experience to be as relaxing or intensive as needed.
What kind of results can I expect?
After just one peel, skin often looks brighter, smoother, and more refreshed. With ongoing treatments, most clients notice a visible reduction in breakouts, fine lines, sun damage, and uneven tone. Think of it as an investment in your skin’s long-term health and glow.
