Pre and Post-Injection Care
Pre-care
Three to five days prior:
Avoid all substances that may thin the blood and increase the chance of bruising
Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, and Alcohol
Avoid Natural substances: Gingko, Garlic, Vitamin E, Fish oil, St. John’s Wort, Flaxseed Oils, etc.
Let your practitioner know if you are on any prescribed anticoagulants (warfarin, coumadin). Never stop taking your prescribed medications before talking to a doctor.
Choose the right injector
Post-care
Immediately Post-Treatment:
Do
DO continue facial exercises every 15 minutes, for the next 2 hours for Botox ®/Dysport® (not for other treatments).
DO keep the area clean until that injection points have healed (< 24hrs).
DO use Tylenol or Arnica and use ice to decrease swelling or bruising.
DO call with any questions or concerns.
Don’t
DON’T lay down for 4-6 hours.
DON’T do strenuous exercise for 24 hours (Including inversions like yoga or pilates).
DON’T touch the area where you were injected
DON’T use makeup.
DON’T use any agents that may thin the blood.
Normal expectations
Some swelling, bruising, and/or redness is normal. You may experience a sensation of stinging or tenderness at the site of injection, which may last for a few minutes to hours depending on how sensitive your skin is. Anything more than that, please call your injector.
What can I expect?
For Deoxycholic Acid treatments, swelling and bruising should last no longer than a few days. No follow-up appointment is required and progress photos will be taken at your next treatment date.

What is Belkyra®?
Belkyra® is a Health Canada approved synthetic form of deoxycholic acid; a naturally occurring substance found in our bodies that destroys fat cells under the chin permanently.
How does Belkyra work?
When injected precisely into the fat cells under the chin, it destroys the fat cells permanently. Then over some time, our body naturally absorbs the dead cells and expels them through our lymphatic system. It significantly reduces submental (under the chin) fat, as well as redefine the jawline.
Where is Belkyra used?
Treatments specifically targeting the double chin.
Who is Belkyra suited for?
For people who:
Have mild, moderate to severe submental fullness (double chin) and don’t want to get surgery;
Are 18 years old or older & in overall good health; and
Are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
Those who have a current or previous history of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) are not candidates.
What can I expect?
Treatments take 30 to 40 minutes depending on the area. Each treatment will permanently destroy submental fat cells by approximately 20-25%. Most candidates require more than one treatment.
Localized topical anaesthetic freezing is applied before treatment and ice will be applied after treatment to minimize discomfort and reduce swelling. Your injector will landmark the treatment area and apply the injection grid. Based on the number of dots on the grid, the Nurse Injector will inject Belkyra® accordingly. You will experience moderate pain during treatment, as well as swelling and tenderness post-treatment for a few days.
