What does preventative Botox even mean?

People always ask, “When is the right age to start getting Botox”?

Ahh! I LOVE this question! The truth is, there is no exact age that is considered “preventative”. Of course, professionals can not and will not administer to anyone younger than 20, but after that, it depends on the individual.

One woman’s wrinkles at 25 may look like another woman’s wrinkles at 35. I have seen a large range of clients from their early to late 20’s with deeper static lines visible at rest than other clients in their 40’s. The aging process is different for every woman, affected by her skincare regime, genetics, water intake, nutrition, hormones, alcohol intake, sugar intake, and other environmental conditions… to name a few important ones.

Also, each woman sees her skin texture differently and has different goals for their overall outcome. Some don’t mind a few fine lines forming in certain areas, where others absolutely DO MIND!

The preventative side of Botox is summed up best by this quote: “The best wrinkle is the one that never comes.”

So you may still be asking, why should I bother with preventative Botox?

Firstly, if you start early enough you can prevent the line from even forming to begin with. When clients come to me with deep formed static lines (lines present at rest) and ask for Botox treatment to eliminate their wrinkles, it can be very difficult and sometimes unrealistic. Once lines have deeply formed, it is hard to reverse that aging process completely with treatment even after a few consecutive times. Other treatments, like laser resurfacing and micro-needling, will also likely need to be introduced to achieve the optimal outcome.

It also maintains brow shape and prevents brows from dropping (causing “hooded” eyelids). “Hooded” eyelids can also be genetic; fat pads are sitting about the eyelid that decreases with aging, and when those fat pads are larger the skin once held up by the fat then starts to drop down over the eyelid.; there They can vary and on the more severe side may need to be addressed with a more surgical approach determined by a Doctor.

Being preventative also results in requiring fewer units because there are fewer deep lines visible due to fewer years of drastic pull. Some units earlier on can mean fewer units later down the road.
